Job Description

This is a permanent position (Job ID 18039) based at York Crown Court in the North East, closing on 12-Jun-2026. The role allows full time or part time, job share and flexible working arrangements.

About the Department

The HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) administers criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales, supporting users and colleagues in delivering justice.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Produce accurate, time critical court documents, orders, and hearing outcomes.
  • Intervene in court when required and maximise judicial sitting time.
  • Support and manage the clerking team, setting direction and measuring performance through regular meetings.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service for the public, media and other stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
  • High emotional resilience and a non judgemental approach to complex and sensitive matters.
  • Strong public speaking skills and confidence to liaise with judges, defence, prosecution and media.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to produce documents accurately and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in IT and adaptability to new systems and digital solutions.
  • Experience in a clerical or court setting with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.
Working Arrangements
  • Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week.
  • Part time, flexible and job sharing arrangements are available; the minimum hours for part time are 18.5 hours per week, including Monday Wednesday.
  • Occasional travel within the cluster may be required.

Visa Information

This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas under current immigration rules. Applicants must hold a prior Skilled Worker visa before the changes on 22 July 2025 or otherwise have the legal right to work in the UK.
