SummaryAssembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant, shipyard, or on construction project by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Has practical knowledge of regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, CSE, Inc. Rules and Regulations and Site-Specific Rules and Regulations.
- Understands OSHA and DOT standards relating to transportation and fleet safety.
- Works within current DOT regulations.
- Assumes responsibility of organizing, planning and prioritizing work.
- Familiar with supervisory personnel, job activity to be performed, hazard communication program, safety rules and regulations, and emergency action procedures.
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive instructions.
- Assumes responsibility of inspecting equipment, structures and/or material.
- Assists in set up and knock down of cranes.
- Performs daily inspection on crane, lifts, welding machines and all other equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
- Signals crane according to signals from qualified signal person.
- Assembles/disassembles boom sections according to job parameters and safe operating procedures.
- Completes defect reports for any deficiencies and returns form to dispatch office.
- Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
- Rigs equipment and materials and then delivers rigging to crane hook.
- Sets intended load in place and unhooks rigging equipment.
- Uses skates, airbags, round stock, pinch bars, come a longs, chain falls and other rigging equipment.
- Has the mathematical knowledge to calculate load weights.
- Inspects all rigging material prior to and after use.
- Ensures that routine maintenance is performed on equipment per manufacturers recommendations.
- Operator should be familiar with the maintenance schedule of the assigned equipment.
- Coordinates with the maintenance staff to perform routine maintenance and repairs.
- Properly lubricates assigned equipment including wire rope.
- Manages downtime to wash, wax, and polish equipment.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to pass a pre employment drug screen.
Education and/or ExperienceOne to two years related experience and/or training. Holds a certified Riggers card or has adequate knowledge to obtain one.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Able to calculate load weight and select appropriate rigging.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to vibration. Noise level is usually loud.
