Job Description

Location: Preston (Sessions House), PR1 2PD

Pay rate: £13.25 per hour

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:00-17:00 (37 hours per week), fully office based

Training: provided and ongoing while in post

Enhanced DBS clearance required (costs covered by the hiring process)

Our Client is hiring for a reputed client to support the day-to day operation of court hearings and provide essential front of house and administrative assistance.

What you'll be doing:
  • Welcome all court visitors, including judiciary, juries, solicitors and barristers, police officers and members of the public
  • Call people into court and manage access to hearings in priority order, coordinating with Court Clerks and Legal Advisers
  • Liaise with the Witness Service as needed, and provide helpful information about proceedings
  • Escort court users in and out of the building, including swearing oaths where required
  • Keep parties informed about changes such as courtroom and hearing times
  • Collect, deliver and manage court files and bundles, ensuring the judiciary and clerks have the right papers
  • Prepare rooms for hearings, trials, tribunals, meetings and ensure rooms are cleared at the end of the day
  • Arrange and support court hearings, including navigating hearings via video link (onsite and remotely)
  • Assist members of the public with general queries when they attend
  • Complete general administration: filing, printing, data entry, typing, and handling incoming/outgoing post
  • Prepare papers and files for hearings and meetings, and produce court documents
  • Create and update records on internal systems
  • Draft standard letters and documents
  • Clerking support for Civil and Family Courts, tribunals and hearings

  • Ability to remain organised and attentive in a fast paced court environment
  • A careful, accurate approach to document handling, data input and record updates
  • Strong communication skills when giving updates and supporting colleagues
  • Willingness to help across court duties both inside and outside of hearing times
  • Comfort supporting proceedings including preparation and room set up
