Summary Job Purpose:
Develop and Maintain PLC, HMI and Drives Software for bespoke Cargo Inspection Systems. Manage projects throughout their life cycle, from initial design, development, on-site commissioning, and with the possibility of performing fault-finding tasks, sometimes remotely, working with our Field Service Engineers. Often to tight deadlines, in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
There also will be requirements to maintain the standard code and develop as the systems develop, with a strong emphasis on R&D on new technology as we develop our systems and upgrade existing systems. Job Description

Position: Control Systems Engineer

Location: Stoke-On-Trent, UK

Job Purpose:

Develop and Maintain PLC, HMI and Drives Software for bespoke Cargo Inspection Systems. Manage projects throughout their life cycle, from initial design, development, on-site commissioning, and with the possibility of performing fault-finding tasks, sometimes remotely, working with our Field Service Engineers. Often to tight deadlines, in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

There also will be requirements to maintain the standard code and develop as the systems develop, with a strong emphasis on R&D on new technology as we develop our systems and upgrade existing systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce control system software.
  • Produce electrical wiring schematics.
  • Develop supporting documentation.
  • Work with customers, suppliers, electrical/mechanical design engineers and Field Service Engineers to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Investigate and develop new equipment and technologies.
  • Perform fault-finding and modification to existing systems.
  • The jobholder should be aware that on occasion, working outside of normal working hours will be required, both within the Stoke facility and overseas.

Required Experience:

  • Strong PLC programming skills - experience working with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 and Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Experience with developing HMI Software.
  • Experience working with Drives and understanding motion.
  • Maintaining a good degree of detail with revision control for every system.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, RS232, RS485 and IO-Link.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Degree/HNC/HND qualification in a related field or at least 5+ years of experience in the field.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Beneficial Experience:

  • Experience with Beijer iX Developer HMI software
  • Experience with SEW MOVISUITE Drives software
  • SolidWorks Electrical experience.
  • A basic understanding of software programming such as C#/C++.
  • Using Copia Automation to maintain revision control.
  • Knowledge of CE/UKCA and UL legislation, the Machinery Directive and ISO/EN 13849-1.
  • Relevant experience working for OEMs.
  • Familiarity with/or a passion for x-ray imaging.
