About the role
Join Our Team as a Contracts Engineering Manage - M25 London Orbital Motorway Project.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Con tracts Engineering Manager to play a key role in delivering one of Europe's most dynamic highway projects: the M25 London Orbital Motorway, managed by Connect Plus Services (CPS).
This role offers flexibility to work from our offices in either Leatherhead, South Mimms, or Dartford.
CPS is a joint Venture project with Balfour Beatty, Atkins, and Egis. We operate and maintain the M25. The M25 is the busiest section of motorway in Europe and requires careful and efficient planning of work in order to deliver over £100m of annual investment in the highway infrastructure each year, in addition to planned and reactive maintenance activity.

What you'll be doing
The Contracts Engineering Manager will act as a key technical advisor within
the Commercial Team, ensuring the successful delivery of major, complex
civil engineering projects. With extensive experience in Highway design
standards and specifications, you will assess the impact of changes to
technical requirements on the costs of delivering future contractual
requirements.
You will work closely with operational, technical and commercial teams,
evaluating the effects of changes in scope, standards and legal
requirements.
This includes identifying the impacted activities and assessing the projected
commercial implications. Effective communication of complex engineering
arguments will be essential to defending and advancing the company's
commercial position.
Contract Management & Compliance
• Interpret various design, maintenance standards and contract
documents, including specifications, code of practice, manuals, and
other guidelines. Assess their impacts on maintenance and renewal
requirements and translate these into actionable requirements for
projects.
• Prepare, submit and negotiate amendments to contracts with
customers, ensuring that any alterations or additional work are
formally incorporated into contracts. Develop proposals for claims or
step changes, advocating for the company's interests.
• Ensure that engineering projects comply with all legal, regulatory, and
operational guidelines. Address and resolve any contract
discrepancies or issues that may arise during project execution
Engineering Oversight & Technical Expertise
• Provide technical leadership by interpreting the implications of design,
maintenance, and renewal standards on the infrastructure.
Communicate these to operational and delivery functions
• Analyse data from asset management systems to predict future
maintenance and renewal needs, proactively identifying potential
issues and long-term requirements for infrastructure upkeep.
• Lead efforts to ensure high engineering standards and network
stewardship are maintained, driving innovations that improve safety,
operational efficiency, and overall project quality. Monitor ongoing
projects for technical consistency and conformance to established
specifications.
Financial
• Prepare accurate technical estimates from first principles, ensuring
the impacts of design, maintenance, and renewal requirements are
fully considered and valued.
• Consider the impact of the estimated change into risk management
systems reflecting potential and future changes in operational and
delivery strategies.
• Report changes in technical and operational standards to senior
leadership and interfacing roles, ensuring that financial risks related
Who we're looking for
Qualifications/skills/experience:
• BEng, BSc or MSc in Civil Engineering or cognate award
• Member or Fellow of ICE, IMechE, IEE or equivalent
• A deep understanding of highway design standards and
specifications, with the ability to interpret and apply these to complex
civil engineering projects.
• Strong analytical skills to assess the impact of technical changes on
project costs and delivery timelines.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to
clearly articulate complex technical information to both technical and
non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to work in a cross-functional team, sharing knowledge, and
providing guidance on engineering and technical matters
• Proactive in identifying potential risks, issues and impacts of changes
in scope, technical standards, and legal requirements.
