Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our integrated mental health team at HMP Askham Grange. HMP Askham Grange is an open category D female prison based in Askham Richard, near York, housing around 120 women. You will be joining an established and experienced team, supporting women aged 18 plus. The site also includes a mother and baby unit. This role has a low volume of patients requiring Psychiatrist support, enabling you to provide consistent and high-quality patient care.

Hours

1 day per month / 8 hours, to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm.

We are offering a part-time role with an annual salary up to £189,900 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
  • Lead the strategic direction of the mental health service, supervise senior mental health clinicians, and contribute to service development.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to review referrals, develop treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and participate in complex case reviews.

  • Monthly Consultant meetings and 1:1 clinical supervision.
  • Bespoke induction including Introducing Health in Justice training.
  • Use of a competency framework.

Qualifications required

  • Current GMC registration.
  • Specialist Registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the MHS 1983.
  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder.
  • Awareness of current mental health service policies and legislation.
