Job Description

CONSULTANT - INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY PSYCHIATRIST

We are looking to recruit a full time Consultant Psychiatrist (Intellectual Disability Psychiatry) to work for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be for a 2 year fixed term contract, to work full time (10 programmed activities per week), with the potential to extend, at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland, with teaching hospital status.

The post-holder will provide psychiatric service for adults within the trust area, working closely alongside three consultant colleagues, taking a clinical leadership role in the provision of a community and hospital-based service for the assessment, treatment and continuing care of adults, aged 18 years upwards with an intellectual disability (moderate, severe and profound) and mental health difficulties within the Trust area.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute with teaching and training a range of professionals working with adults with an Intellectual Disability and / or mental health difficulties. The post holder will be encouraged to contribute to medical student placements, and also to become a postgraduate trainer as soon as possible.

Key Requirements
  • Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Intellectual Disability Psychiatry viaCCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date),CESR or E uropean Community Rights
  • MRCPsych qualification or equivalent.
  • Wide range and comprehensive training and experience in Psychiatry usually via a higher training scheme, experience in working with Patients with an Intellectual Disability, experience of working across interfaces in a multi-agency environment.
  • Hold a driving licence which is valid for use in UK (International Licence will be valid for 1 year)
  • It would be desirable to have Specialist Training in an area of therapy relevant to adults with a learning disability, be able to recognise abuse and neglect and respond appropriately, have k nowledge of genetic and neurological disorders , have e xperience diagnosing and managing autistic spectrum disorders , have an understanding of risk assessment and management and an interest in service development and experience of clinical management.

Salary:£106,424 to £139,920 per annum
