We are assisting a prestigious NHS Trust in recruiting a Consultant in Stroke & Geriatric Medicine on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term (12 months) basis to join their successful Stroke Department.
The Trust's Medicine for Older People services are available across all four sites, including an acute stroke unit, four acute MfOP wards on the main site, and step-down and rehabilitation wards on the other sites. The directorate is actively developing stroke and frailty pathways to ensure patients receive appropriate care in suitable environments. It also provides Ortho-Geriatric support for fractured neck of femur pathways and offers comprehensive services for older patients both in hospital and in the community, including integrated acute services and designated outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Contribute to the development of the stroke medicine service alongside management and colleagues in Medicine for Older People.
- Support sub-acute rehabilitation for stroke patients in community hospitals and settings.
- Provide TIA services at RBH4.
- Maintain clinical responsibility for patients under their care, in collaboration with colleagues.
- Participate in cover arrangements during colleagues' leave.
- Develop services that reduce hospital stays and promote recovery and independence.
- Engage in medical audit and clinical governance.
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior medical staff.
- Participate in postgraduate teaching and attend relevant meetings.
