Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

We have been assigned by one of the UK's most prestigious NHS Trusts to assist in recruiting a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

The client is one of the largest university hospital trusts in the country, offering a general Respiratory service along with specialties such as thoracoscopy, vasculitis, severe asthma, interstitial and pleural disease. Applicants with experience in these fields are welcome, but other specialties will also be considered to meet patient needs. The department provides community clinics and is participating in a city-wide redesign of the specialty. The successful candidate will join an established team of 12 consultants and highly trained nurses specializing in COPD, severe asthma, and lung cancer.

The role involves providing inpatient care on the Respiratory Unit, participating in ward and off-ward rotations, and taking part in respiratory on-call duties. The appointee will contribute to general respiratory activities, bronchoscopy/thoracoscopy rotations, and will be encouraged to develop subspecialty interests, contribute to research and education, and participate in ongoing research trials. Opportunities exist to become a principal investigator for upcoming clinical trials and to develop an EBUS & interventional bronchoscopy service if desired. Other subspecialty interests and collaborations with infectious disease teams are also supported.

The position offers access to weekly radiology, Respiratory Directorate/Governance meetings, pleural MDTs, and regional MDT meetings at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The location blends rural countryside with market towns and city amenities, with excellent transport links and an international airport, offering a high quality of life with outstanding schools.
