Are you a passionate and forward-thinking Emergency Medicine Consultant ready to make a real impact? Milton Keynes University Hospital is seeking an exceptional clinician to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of emergency care.
We're looking for someone who brings more than just clinical excellence-someone with the energy, vision, and leadership to help us become one of the top-performing emergency departments in the country. If you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and are committed to delivering outstanding patient care, we want to hear from you.
What We're Looking For
If you're ready to take the next step in your career and help lead a department that's ambitious, innovative, and compassionate, we'd love to meet you.
Let's talk for an informal conversation or to arrange a visit, please contact Daniel Sedgewick, Clinical Director: -
Main duties of the job The purpose of this post is to provide Emergency services to the population served by Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Applicants with special interests will be supported in developing these within the department. Those with an interest and aptitude for leadership roles within and beyond the department are particularly welcome to apply.
As a medium sized general hospital, we provide a full range of general medical and surgical services, including a busy Emergency Department, Maternity and Paediatrics. As the population of our city and surrounding areas continues to grow rapidly, we are expanding and enhancing our facilities to meet rising demand and improve access to care for all our communities.
We are also proud to offer a growing portfolio of specialist services. In January 2025 we opened our state of the art Radiotherapy Centre, bringing advanced cancer treatment closer to home. Our services also include neonatology, specialist surgical care and a wide range of diagnostics, supported by the new Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre.
Further investment is underway, including the construction of Oak Wards- a new ward block featuring two 24 bed wards-and the recently approved Women and Children's Centre, set to open by 2030.
Job responsibilities The successful candidate will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share with consultant colleagues in the contribution to management. Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service, the appointee will be expected to observe the Trusts agreed guidelines and procedures, drawn up in consultation on clinical matters, and to follow the local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to make sure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of their patients to be able to contact them when necessary.
All medical and dental staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with hospital health and safety policies, Clinical Governance, and other risk management policies.
The successful candidate agrees to have responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students and other professional staff who work with them and will devote time to this activity on a regular basis. If appropriate, the successful candidate will be named in the contracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such Doctors on their careers.
Involvement in research is encouraged. The post holder will be required to submit any service or research development plans, particularly those which have resource implications, to the Clinical Director for agreement before implementation.
For those that are dual accredited, there may also be an opportunity to maintain skills linked to their other specialty, e.g., ICM, PHEM, Acute Medicine, Paediatrics, which may be included in their core job plan.
Due to close ties between the hospital and the University of Buckingham Medical School, opportunities will also arise to take on roles in the development of our future doctors which include the delivery of lectures and leading clinical blocks.
This is a 10PA contract, 7.5PA DCC and 2.5 PA SPA, but options may arise to take on additional clinical PAs. Management and leadership roles may attract additional programmed activities and/or a responsibility allowance.
