Job overviewWe are seeking to recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics.
We are a busy anaesthetic department with a commitment to train both local and international trainees and have an active educational programme. The successful candidate will hold the FRCA or equivalent and have evidence of extensive experience within anaesthesia. We particularly welcome applications from motivated individuals keen to invest in the development of our services and who will contribute to a positive departmental culture.
Successful applicants will undertake anaesthetic sessions across a broad range of surgical specialties, including Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial, Urology and Gynaecology.
The Anaesthetic departments at University Hospitals across all sites, are extremely forward thinking and have established themselves within the research arena, with multiple presentations at National and International meetings.
St Richard's Hospital is currently the largest NHS bariatric surgery provider in the south of England, we welcome applications from candidates with a bariatric interest.
The hospital is located between the sea and the South Downs National Park, giving ample opportunity to pursue a variety of different interests.
Main duties of the job- The successful applicant will part take in the General Anaesthetic rota, comprising anaesthetic duties for a wide range of surgical interventions, both planned and emergency (specialties detailed above). Stabilisation of paediatric emergencies prior to transfer is undertaken by both the General Anaesthetic rota and the Intensive Care rota.
On Call Commitment is a 1 in 12 frequency at Category A and attracts a 3% supplement. - Sub speciality interests are strongly encouraged particularly in areas of Bariatric and block anaesthesia. Some weekend trauma cover would also be expected, these sessions run for 6 hours on both Saturday and Sundays and would form part of the job planned commitment to the Trust.
- The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis

Person specification Experience/ Qualifications- • FRCA or its recognised equivalent.
- • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. • If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. • If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)

- • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
