This is an excellent opportunity to join our full service national Construction and Engineering team. Following continued growth in client instructions and in response to client demand, we are looking to expand our construction team.
Ideally, we are looking for candidates to work in Leeds, Newcastle, or Edinburgh.
What does the team do?We provide a full range of dispute resolution and transactional advice, delivering a seamless service to our clients. Our work includes large complex international infrastructure projects and domestic construction contracts. Our clients include central government departments, household name retailers, utility providers (water, oil, and gas), Tier 1 contractors, developers, housebuilders, social housing providers, universities, defence contractors, banks, and insolvency practitioners.
Our transactional work involves major projects in energy, education, housing, manufacturing, and transport sectors. We collaborate with real estate, procurement, and banking teams. We draft framework agreements, alliancing contracts, building and engineering contracts, development agreements, and consultants' appointments.
Our dispute work covers claims related to delay, disruption, loss and expense, defective workmanship, materials, and design, often in the Technology and Construction Court (TCC). We also advise on adjudications, arbitrations, and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including insurance issues.
The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload within a close-knit team led by experienced partners.
What experience are we looking for?We seek candidates with over one year of experience in construction disputes or transactional matters, or a combination of both. You should have strong academic credentials, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis, and the ability to quickly understand complicated facts. Your advice should be clear and concise, with a high level of commercial awareness to address clients' objectives. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with clients and colleagues.
It's important to be able to work collaboratively across locations and disciplines, as most projects involve multidisciplinary teams. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from top professionals, develop a career in a growing area, and receive mentorship in a supportive environment.
