Conflicts Staff Lawyer - International Law Firm (London)

An international law firm with a strong global reputation is seeking a Conflicts Staff Lawyer to join its London office. The firm is known for its inclusive, collaborative culture and its supportive, down to earth working environment where lawyers and business professionals work closely together.

About the Role

This is an advisory, stakeholder facing position within the firm's global Conflicts & New Business Department. Operating closely with colleagues across the UK, Europe, the US and other international offices, the Conflicts Staff Lawyer plays a key part in ensuring the firm meets its professional, ethical and regulatory obligations while enabling new business.

The role involves providing practical, commercially minded advice directly to Partners and senior stakeholders. It is a visible, high impact position within a fast paced international environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and analysing conflicts reports to identify potential conflicts of interest or business issues
  • Conducting corporate and regulatory research using external databases
  • Preparing detailed Conflicts Summaries and recommending resolutions such as waivers or screens
  • Reviewing and approving new client and matter intake forms
  • Advising Partners and Associates on conflicts, intake policies and procedures
  • Drafting engagement letters, conflict waivers and ethical screensSupporting the onboarding of lateral Partners and Associates
  • Staying up to date with conflicts rules and professional conduct requirements across relevant jurisdictions
Candidate Profile Essential
  • Strong working knowledge of professional conduct rules (e.g., SRA Code of Conduct, ABA Model Rules)
  • Admission to a recognised bar or law society
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong legal analytical skills, sound judgement and commercial awareness
  • Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities under pressure
  • Discreet and comfortable handling confidential information
  • Confident engaging with senior stakeholders
Preferred
  • Conflicts or new business intake experience within a US or international law firm
  • Experience with research and screening tools such as CapitalIQ, Orbis or WorldCheck
  • Intapp Open experience
  • AML knowledge
  • Experience drafting or negotiating engagement letters or guidelines
