Managing Regulatory Outlook for Future EU Legislation in Product Development


Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced EU Compliance Specialist to support the Vehicle Support division within Product Development. This role is key in translating complex European legislation into clear, actionable requirements that guide engineering decisions and long-term product strategies. You will be involved early in the development process, helping to shape project direction based on upcoming legal obligations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the organization in discussions with automotive industry associations and regulatory bodies (e.g. EC, UNECE, ACEA, RAI).
  • Monitor legal developments and participate in relevant working groups and symposia related to heavy-duty vehicle regulations.
  • Develop and maintain a regulatory forecast to support vehicle definition and long-term product planning.
  • Analyze the impact of future legislation on current and planned vehicle programs in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
  • Translate EU directives and regulations into clear, structured legal requirements for internal stakeholders.
  • Issue formal Legal Notifications to inform the organization of upcoming regulatory changes.
  • Support project managers by explaining legal implications and helping to define projects based on new regulations.
  • Advise engineers on how legal requirements translate into product adaptations, and support them in evaluating whether proposed solutions are compliant and competitive.
  • Use internal compliance tools (e.g. DOORS) to document legal requirements and link them to technical product requirements.


Additional Context & Expectations

  • This role supports the Vehicle Support department and contributes early in the development cycle.
  • You must have a deep and broad understanding of all EU legislation relevant to vehicle homologation.
  • Ability to translate legal complexity into practical guidance for both engineers and senior stakeholders, including management and board-level decision-makers.
  • Expected to play a proactive advisory role, triggering projects based on upcoming legislation, and helping the organization stay ahead of compliance requirements.


Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EU vehicle legislation and homologation - preferably more.
  • Strong understanding of the homologation process and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Proven ability to work with government agencies or type approval authorities.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence and inform across all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled in interpreting legislation and documenting it in an understandable and traceable format.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
