Job Description

COMPLIANCE MANAGER

JOB OUTLINE:
Location: UK (Theale, Reading) or Belgium (Geel, Antwerp)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days a week in the office
Reports to: Head of European Distribution

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Build, roll out, and maintain trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure alignment with EU, UK, and local laws.
  • Conduct regular checks and audits to identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary advisor and trainer on compliance matters, fostering understanding and adherence across the organization.
  • Monitor changes in European regulations and update processes to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with the head office in Japan to ensure European operations meet all legal requirements.
  • Act as the main contact for regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate reports and filings.
  • Work with departments such as customs, legal, finance, and operations to address compliance issues and establish controls.
  • Identify potential compliance breaches and take appropriate corrective measures.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Specific Skills Required

  • A degree in business, law, finance, or a related field (Master's preferred but not essential), or equivalent experience in compliance (5+ years), regulatory affairs, or similar in Europe.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and practical application.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills to interpret complex rules and their business impact.
  • Proven experience in developing and leading compliance programs in Europe.
  • Relevant certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional is preferred.
  • Experience working with multiple entity group structures.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively with senior management.
  • Experience handling sensitive information with discretion.
