Job Description

North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) are searching for a passionate and experienced Band 5 Community Rotational Occupational Therapist to join their highly skilled Inpatient Rehabilitation service.

North Mid provides both hospital and community care, helping to keep people in the best possible health at every stage in their lives.

Its maternity, children, and adult services span a range of medical and surgical specialities and its adult and children's emergency departments are among the busiest in London.

North Mid is also proud to offer one of the largest services in the UK dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of red cell haemoglobin conditions, including sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes.

Job Summary:

To be an active part of the Occupational Therapy Team in the delivery of inpatient rehabilitation.

To work well as part of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs and goals of the patients.

To provide occupational therapy to patients admitted for rehabilitation within an inpatient setting, meeting the needs of the multicultural and diverse population.

To deliver holistic care in treating the physical, cognitive, perceptual, sensory and emotional conditions associated with this client group.

To be part of the 7 day OT service rota, with the ability to work Saturday &Sunday to support the weekend rota alongside other OTs and Physiotherapists.

Introduction to the Department:

Our inpatient rehabilitation services across 3 wards are for adults presenting with a variety of clinical conditions including post-operative orthopaedic surgery, decreased mobility after a fall, exacerbation of a long-term condition, recovery from acute medical problems, deconditioning following an extended hospital stay and stroke or complex neurology conditions.

Many of our patients have multiple pathologies and present with complex needs that requiring inpatient comprehensive assessment and treatment plan by the multi-disciplinary team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To assess the functional/ occupational/ cognitive needs of in- patients and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment plans.

To develop skills working with a diverse range of health conditions, including core rehabilitation (E.g. Orthopaedic, frailty, falls, dementia, amputees) , Stroke & neurological conditions, Complex multipathology presentations.

To be involved in daily moving and Handling assessments for patients.

To participate in the multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment provision.

To work with patients to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using standardized and local occupational therapy assessment tools.

To contribute to taking a lead role in the overview of the discharge planning of allocated patients, recommending services and appropriate follow up at home.

To be able to manage and prioritize a caseload of patients, planning their occupational therapy input and further services that may be required.

To plan and implement patient-centered individual and/or group interventions using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyles changes and adaptations to the client's social and physical environment.

To develop skills working with patients with complex postural management and specialist seating needs.

To identify unmet needs in the service and advise Band 7 OT as necessary.

Requirements:

  • BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
