The National Gallery of Ireland ('the Gallery') is Ireland's major national cultural institution devoted to the collection and care of fine art. Comprising more than 19,000 paintings, drawings, watercolours, miniatures, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, the institution's extensive holdings include masterpieces by many of the most celebrated figures in the history of western European art. In addition, the Gallery houses the most representative collection of historic Irish art. Funded mainly by the State, the Gallery employs more than 180 staff and provides free access to the public 361 days a year. The Gallery has received numerous recent awards and accreditations. These include accreditation under NSAI SWiFT 3000, which provides an independent evaluation of our compliance with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies and the RIAI's Silver Medal for Conservation and Restoration.
Responsibilities- Work with the CMDE team to devise and coordinate the Gallery's communications plan, including but not limited to Irish language content for communications, marketing and digital engagement purposes.
- Coordinate the development of Irish language content for the CMDE team and Gallery by providing Irish translations, sourcing, reviewing and editing Irish translations prior to publishing.
- Research, develop and implement a plan for the Gallery's Irish language website.
- Produce engaging and effective dual language (Irish and English) copy for use in internal and external communications (e.g. press releases, pitches, press invites and materials, website content, social media content, corporate reports, intranet and advertising).
- Ensure the Gallery complies with content and advertising requirements under Section 10(A) of the Official Languages Act 2021.
- Collaborate with other Gallery teams to develop a planned approach to translating and editing Gallery documents and reporting on our communications activities in the Irish language.
- Prepare and publish accessible content and documents.
- Work with relevant Gallery teams and website/platform owners (e.g., Publications & Images, Library & Archive, Education, HR, Retail and Ticket Sales) to enhance dual language use on the Gallery's sub domains.
- Publicise the Gallery's programmes - including up to ten exhibitions per year - via media and digital platforms.
- Devise and execute tailored press releases and pitches aimed at a range of Irish language media outlets.
- Manage and maintain relationships with journalists and stakeholders including responding to media queries.
- Coordinate and supervise communications and marketing activities such as press previews, photo calls, filming and the production of video content.
- Assume other duties appropriate to the post as assigned by line management.
- A third level qualification.
- Fluent Irish (spoken and written).
- Experience translating between Irish and English, ideally with relevant training or qualifications.
- Background in journalism or social media content production in Irish, ideally with relevant training or qualifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create effective, clear and interesting external and internal communications campaigns.
- Knowledge of the Official Languages Act 2021.
- Previous experience working in Communications or a similar field.
- Experience working in a dual language or Gaeilge role.
- Knowledge of the media landscape in Ireland.
- Knowledge of digital platforms, software and programmes such as Mailchimp, Drupal, X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Photoshop.
- Awareness of current trends and developments in communications, digital communications and within the cultural sector.
- Advanced IT skills (Microsoft Office) and previous experience working with web content management systems and developing web content for cultural organisations.
- Enthusiasm and interest for working at the Gallery and the cultural field and a willingness to contribute to a positive working environment.

- Citizen of Switzerland, pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons.
- Non EEA citizen who has a Stamp 4 permission or a Stamp 5 permission.
A 50 TEU permission, which serves as a replacement for Stamp 4EUFAM after Brexit, is considered equivalent to Stamp 4.
Job Details and Application Information Grade and SalaryThe salary for this position will be in accordance with the Executive Officer (PPC) pay scale, as per the 1 June 2026 pay adjustments. The salary scale for this position is as follows: €38,803 €40,764 €41,871 €44,030 €45,965 €47,838 €49,703 €51,534 €53,419 €55,296 €57,289 €58,624 €60,527 €63,227 . The starting salary will be at the first point on the scale, €38,419.00 per annum, or at a higher point of the scale as appropriate to the successful candidate, if appointed from an existing public sector role (in accordance with Circular 08/2019). Candidates should note the National Gallery of Ireland complies with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform regulations and guidelines on Public Service pay and conditions of employment.
Annual LeaveThe successful candidate will be entitled to 23 days of annual leave pro rata.
SuperannuationThe successful candidate will be placed on the public sector pension scheme.

DurationPermanent.
Working HoursFull time, 5 days a week - 35 hours per week (net of breaks). Flexibility is required and the successful candidate will be required to work occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
