Job Description

Communications and Intranet Manager

Our client's new Senior Management team is developinga new Intranet (nearing completion for the first phase of deployment) aimed at improving communication throughout the organisation. This key initiative requires an Internal Communications Officer to complete the Intranet content design and build, and successfully launch the Intranet alongside a roadmap of future enhancements. This includes developing an internal communications strategy for the organisation and delivering this to all staff.

Tasks to be undertaken:

  • Develop and execute the internal communications strategy for the organisation, including key messaging, communication channels, and tactics
  • Create and deliver internal communications content, including newsletters, Intranet content, and presentations
  • Work with key organisational stakeholders to ensure all internal communication is clear, consistent, and aligned with the DMO's goals and values
  • Work with the project team to complete the Intranet build - designing and managing IA and navigation, building templates for content types and populate with existing content, applying metadata, tagging, alt text and cross-links to improve accessibility and search, ensuring Intranet conforms to accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and GDS standards and best practice
  • Upskill content owners to enable them to self-sufficiently manage and extend their content.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap of Intranet enhancements by working with key stakeholders across the DMO to design and develop their content
  • Manage the company's Intranet, working with content owners ensuring content is up-to date, user-friendly, and aligned with the company's goals and values
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and Intranet usage, and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure that internal communications are timely and relevant
  • Identify opportunities to promote employee engagement, improve UX and help foster a positive company culture

Skills and experience required:

  • 3+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related field
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Well organised, able to take own initiative, and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong experience with content creation, design and delivery, including email, newsletters, Intranet content, and presentations
  • Ability to manage and work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the organization - both technical and business
  • Strong attention to detail for content design and build and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency with CMS platforms including Drupal
  • Strong understanding and experience of content structure, IA and template creation
  • Experience managing and maintaining Intranet tools
  • Familiar with GDS and WCAG 2.2AA standards including knowledge of gov.uk standards
  • The role requires SC Clearance to be completed or transferred.

Knowledge of Intranet solutions and rolling these out UNCLASSIFIED Knowledge of best practices for internal communications

Hybrid Working

The role will be at least 3 days per week in the office and 2 days remotely.

The role requires SC level security clearance so candidates must meet UK base requirements to be eligible for vetting (UK residence for 3 out of last 5 years). Preference will be given for candidates who are SC security cleared, however, they will accept exceptional candidates without security clearance on the basis that the successful candidate obtains SC clearance prior to starting the contract.
