The role

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Commercial Lawyer to provide clear, practical, and solution-focused legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters. This will include drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on procurement, partnership and collaboration agreements, construction and development projects, and other key commercial arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide timely, high-quality legal advice on a range of commercial and contractual matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, procurement documentation, and partnership agreements.
• Support major projects including regeneration, development, and service delivery initiatives.
• Manage your own caseload effectively, balancing competing priorities.
• Build strong working relationships with internal clients, external partners, and stakeholders.

What the client is looking for

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent) with experience in commercial law, ideally within local government or the public sector.
• Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, procurement, and related areas of law.
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
• A pragmatic, solution-oriented approach with the ability to manage risk effectively.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to advise officers and members.
• The ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive team environment
