Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Commercial HGV Trailer/Truck Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing a wide range of heavy goods vehicle trailers and lorries. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, electrical knowledge, and proficiency with various tools and equipment. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic environment, ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of our fleet.
Responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on commercial trailers and lorries
Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams
Perform repairs involving welding, soldering, fabrication, and assembly of parts
Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs and modifications
Repair or replace components such as brakes, axles, suspension systems, lighting, and electrical systems
Maintain accurate records of work carried out and parts utilised
Assist with the repair of auxiliary equipment such as excavators and forklifts as required
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards
Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repair status and recommendations
Undertake heavy lifting tasks safely to handle large components or equipment parts
Qualifications
Proven experience in mechanical repair of commercial vehicles, trailers or similar heavy machinery
Knowledge of electrical systems within HGVs including schematics interpretation
Skills in fabrication, welding, soldering, and working with hand tools and power tools
Familiarity with assembly processes and equipment repair techniques
Experience working with specialised equipment such as excavators or forklifts is advantageous
Strong understanding of maintenance procedures for heavy vehicles and auxiliary machinery
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Good communication skills to provide clear updates to customers and team members
