Job Description

CNI Network SME

Whitehall Resources currently require an experienced CNI Network Engineer to work with a key client based in Wokingham

*Please note this role falls INSIDE IR35 and requires 3 days onsite weekly*

Your responsibilities:
. Liaising with managers and technical staff to analyze the information technology infrastructure needs of the organization
. looking at data such as network traffic to determine the capacity and speed required
. designing the network structure and presenting this to management
. identifying the hardware required, such as Routers and Switches
. identifying the software required, such as network drivers and Firewalls
. working out a data migration plan, if designing a new network to replace an existing one
. working with the technical team carrying out the installation
. developing technical documentation
. keeping up to date with new hardware and software technology.
. Advanced understanding of technical architecture design
. Maintaining Routers and Switches
. Managing Firewall installation and ongoing monitoring
. In-depth knowledge of network security principles and cybersecurity protocols
. Knowledge of load balancers and how best to apply them
. Experience with technical support
. Understanding of virtual private networks (VPNs)
. Experience with domain name system (DNS)
. Knowledge of network frameworks and the impacts of using different types
. Transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) best practices
. Understanding of IPv6
. Experience with network segmentation
. General understanding of software development and its impact on networking demands
. A foundational understanding of operating systems and how those affect the network design
. Experience with network infrastructure
. Proven track record of network hardware installation and configuration.

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
. Designing and building data communication networks.
. The networks they work on can range from smaller local area networks (LANs) to larger wide area networks (WANs), along with intranets.
. Manage all of the resources including third party service providers in the provision of operational management and control of CNI SCADA and CNI networks, ensuring that they are fully resilient, safe and secure.
. Work with IS, the business and all third party stakeholders to ensure that any changes to the networks and associated hardware are not going to affect the safe operational control of the networks.
. Work with Audit, Security and any other outside Government organizations to ensure that the support operations are compliant with policies and standards expected of critical CNI networks.
. Participation in the management of incidents on CNI networks ensuring that resilience is brought back into operations a quickly as possible. Lead root cause analysis investigations to ensure that learning is fed back to prevent reoccurrence.
. Responsibility for annual budget and track actuals against an approved budget plan. Ensure that disaster recovery plans are in place and tested appropriately

. Leadership qualities: ability to mentor junior personnel and provide guidance on work packages
. Ability to work with little or no guidance
. Attention to detail in all aspects of the analysis and ability to draw conclusion quickly in a limited timeframe
. Ability to balance multiple tasks without a negative impact on quality
. Experience of working effectively both individually and as part of highly productive teams in an Infrastructure/Application ITIL based support environment. Appreciation of business-critical Real Time systems
. Strong verbal and written skills
. Candidate must be able to pass background vetting process.
