Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Practitioner, Band 4, Full time 37.5 hours a week.

We require a Paediatric and/or Neonatal experienced practitioner with a clear interest in research.

The post holder will assist with delivery of a portfolio of Paediatric and Neonatal Clinical Trials under the supervision of a Registered Nurse based at The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton (RACH).

The post holder will also support R&I Senior staff in the implementation of trust policies and procedures and adherence to Research Governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Main duties of the job
  • Manage and co-ordinate the implementation of some, uncomplicated, clinical trial protocols in accordance with the relevant local, National and International guidelines, under indirect supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner.
  • Assumes responsibility for aspects of specific complex research studies as delegated by the Lead / Senior Research Nurse and under supervision of Research Nurses, i.e., screening for potential participants or co-ordinating patient visits.
  • Obtains written informed consent for research studies (where appropriate).
  • Obtains and records observations such as vital signs, ECG, respiratory function and blood glucose analysis, as required by the trial protocol and as delegated by the registered healthcare practitioner, informing trained staff of any abnormal results
  • Data gathering and data entry using paper and electronic case report forms.
  • Works independently in clinical areas within the Trust and with external organisations
  • Recognise emergency situations and respond appropriately in line with Trust policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Adhere to UHSussex Infection Cont rol policies, highlighting any areas of concern to individual staff as required and escalates as necessary
  • Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process

The successful candidate must have experience in working in the acute paediatric/ neonatal care setting and have a broad range of clinical skills.

  • NVC Level 3 or equivalent
  • Significant Paediatric and Neonatal acute speciality experience in a hospital setting
  • Venepuncture and ECG
  • Shows a clear understanding and has a strong passion for research
  • GCP certification
  • Consent receiving experience
  • Previous experience in research
  • Degree in healthcare/scientific discipline
