Due to expansion, Breckland Alliance Research is seeking an experienced research nurse to join our full time team.

Breckland Alliance Research works with Grove Surgery, School Lane Surgery and Watton Medical Practice, serving a population of approximately 45,000 people. With funding from the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research (NIHR) we are a Primary Care Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC(PC and part of the CRDC UK Network. We provide a coordinated UK wide infrastructure for fast, reliable and consistent trial delivery at scale, supporting inclusive, decentralised trials across the NHS.

Job responsibilities

• Assist the research manager to ensure the research team processes are maintained and developed.
• Assist in developing clinical research policies, procedures and SOPs.
• Screen, recruit, randomise and maintain research participants within studies.
• Co ordinate own case load of clinical studies and participants.
• Ensure clinical trial methodology is adhered to.
• Ensure that work is carried out to ICH GCP, Research Governance and EU Clinical Trials Directive standards for all clinical studies.
• Undertake clinical procedures including collection and handling of biological samples.
• Act as primary point of contact for participants on a clinical study.
• Ensure all participants are managed safely according to surgery policies and guidelines.
• Take informed consent from participants where authorised.
• Liaise with external clinical study personnel as necessary.
• Supply data as required to the PI regarding progress of clinical studies.
• Identify barriers to recruitment and ensure PI is aware of them; identify and implement action plans to remove these barriers.
• Assist the doctors in monitoring the research participants' condition throughout their time within the clinical trial.
• Ensure safe administration of treatments and drugs in the context of a clinical study.
• Ensure that the study specific investigations are undertaken as required by the protocol to establish eligibility and safety to enter the trial.
• Provide ongoing information, education and support to participants regarding the clinical trials.
• Maintain accurate documentation of research related activities in the study and surgery notes.
• Monitor treatment toxicity/side effects and initiate changes to treatment as required by the protocol.
• Follow all local, network and sponsor policies and procedures to ensure you are working according to GCP and Research Governance standards for the clinical studies.
• Work within the NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional conduct.

Qualifications

• A relevant nursing degree.
• Current NMC registration with an active PIN.

Essential skills and experience

• Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, vaccinations, immunisations and recording spirometry.
• Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work.
• Experience working on clinical research.
• Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
