Job Description
This role is within a developing service that supports people with psychosis who face barriers to engaging with mental health services. You will work alongside colleagues across the community mental health pathway to use your psychological knowledge to support engagement and recovery.
Job ResponsibilitiesMain duties
- Provide psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to service users and their families, in individual and group formats.
- Deliver CBTp and other evidence based therapeutic approaches.
- Respond to referrals, triage and prioritise demand in line with the lead psychologist and service managers.
- Identify and deliver appropriate group interventions and support staff learning through reflective practice, debrief and training sessions.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals and contribute to service development projects.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, report data and high quality documentation as required by the organisation.
- Monitor and evaluate psychological interventions using appropriate measures.
- Participate in multi disciplinary meetings, service reviews and risk management discussions, contributing a psychosocial perspective.
- Engage in continuing professional development, peer supervision and obtain/maintain accreditation (e.g. HCPC, BPS, BABCP).
- Use information technology (Systm1, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) competently for assessment, record keeping and service statistics.
- Provide support to the wider SAMHP team, including teaching, training, supervision and research advice.
- Adhere to policies, procedures and national guidelines (e.g. NICE, Mental Health Act).
Other duties
- Contribute to the maintenance and development of office systems and procedures.
- Assist in the development and review of operational policies and service delivery within the acute mental health pathway.
- Participate in service evaluation, audit and research projects.
- Post graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Provision of evidence based psychological interventions to adults with a range of mental health problems.
- Experience working in mental health services with varying clinical complexity.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with routine outcome monitoring, audit and clinical research.
- Evidence of engagement in continuing professional development.
- Experience with adults with severe and complex mental health problems and specialist psychosis services.
- Experience supervising or delivering training to other professionals.
- Service innovation and development experience.
- Knowledge of evidence based psychological therapies relevant to the service.
- Understanding of common and complex mental health issues and the role of acute mental health services.
- Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, Mental Health Act and related legislation.
- Working knowledge of clinical governance tools and approaches.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of an MDT.
- High level of spoken and written communication and presentation skills.
- Development of therapeutic relationships with clients with complex mental health needs.
- Effective communication and liaison with practitioners, secondary mental health services and agencies.
- Ability to respond effectively to distressed or potentially violent service users and carers.
- Use of clinical supervision and personal development positively.
- Time management, prioritisation and resilience under pressure.
- Ability to maintain resilience in frequent exposure to high distress situations.
- Ability to support other professionals in managing emotional demands of their work.
- Critical appraisal of own performance.
- Frequent independent travel between Livewell Southwest sites and community locations, including areas without public transport.
