We are looking to appoint an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist to join our team, providing a service of excellence for older people in Hertfordshire. The role offers a range of responsibilities across specialist assessments, interventions, supervision, supported placements for trainee clinical psychologists, and collaboration with multiple disciplines and the local university.
Main duties of the job- Specialist psychological assessment (including risk assessment) and treatment of clients referred to the service.
- Provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing to formulation, diagnosis and case management plans.
- Supervise assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists; support their development and place trainees for clinical placements.
- Support psychological aspects of service development, evaluation, research, teaching and CPD; maintain clinical standards and governance.
Clinical:
- Carry out specialist psychological assessments, using complex data from testing, observations and interviews.
- Formulate and implement treatment plans based on evidence and conceptual frameworks.
- Deliver specialist interventions, refine formulations and monitor outcomes.
- Make treatment decisions considering historical and developmental factors.
- Provide advice and consultation for risk assessment and management.
- Communicate complex information orally and in writing to clients and professionals.
Teaching, training and supervision:
- Receive clinical and professional supervision from senior psychologists.
- Develop and deliver postgraduate teaching, training and supervision to other staff.
- Provide supervision to assistant psychologists and clinical placements for trainees.
- Support pre and post qualification teaching of professional psychology.
Management, recruitment, policy and service development:
- Support service development, evaluation and monitoring of operational policies.
- Advise health services and managers on psychological and organisational matters.
- Manage workloads of assistants and trainee psychologists.
- Participate in short listing and interviewing of assistant/graduate psychologists.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary forums related to service delivery.
Research and service evaluation:
- Apply doctoral level knowledge of research methodology and multivariate analysis.
- Use evidence based literature to support practice and provide research advice.
- Lead or support audit and service evaluation projects.
General:
- Maintain high professional standards through CPD, supervision, appraisal and engagement with current developments.
- Keep clinical records, electronic data, reports and provide responsible self governance.
- Stay up to date with legislation, national and local policies relevant to the client group.
Knowledge, skills and experience sought: doctoral level training as a practitioner psychologist, expertise in psychopathology, psychometrics, neuropsychology and at least two psychological therapies. Experience with varied client groups, risk assessment, supervision, teaching and clinical governance is required.

- Experience working with a variety of client groups across the life course and presenting problems of varying severity.
- Maintaining professionalism in emotionally challenging and high risk situations.
- Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Experience in working with older people in a clinical role.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience applying psychological services in different cultural contexts.
- Clinical psychology or equivalent.
- Registered as a clinical or counselling psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Additional postgraduate training or qualification in a specific psychological therapy.
