Job Description
Clinical Psychologist - Psychology Health We areoffering an exciting opportunity for a full time HCPC-registered Psychologistto develop specialist expertise and experience within a Clinical HealthPsychology service.This post is ideal for newly qualified psychologists seekingto consolidate their skills, as well as for more experienced clinicians lookingto broaden their clinical portfolio. You will join a dynamic, supportiveClinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology team within the Trust.
Initially, the rolewill be primarily based within the Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)Psychology Service and other departments we support across Royal DevonUniversity Healthcare (RDUH) Foundation Trust, Exeter. Over time, there may beopportunities to work with a range of teams across the wider CHNP service. Youwill have access to excellent professional support, supervision, and ongoingtraining linked to the role.
The post wouldsuit a clinician who has an interest in developing experience in healthpsychology-based approaches that can incorporate therapies such as CBT, CAT,ACT, CFT, EMDR. Opportunities for further training in these approaches areavailable. We also have collaborative links with the NHS Talking Therapiesservice that has a long-term conditions team as part of a matched care approach.

Job responsibilities Job Purpose
The principal purpose of the job is to improve thepsychological health & wellbeing of people within the post holdersspecialist field of practice.
The post will sit within the Health Psychology andNeuropsychology Department and will involve a dynamic role across multipleteams within Clinical Health and Neuropsychology Services. This role will include working withfunctional presentations across a range of settings, including the FunctionalNeurological Disorder Service. Therewill be strong links with the Integrated Psychological Medicine Pathway withinLiaison Psychiatry. The post holder will be clinically managed and supportedwithin the Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Department.
This will be achieved in this post through undertaking thefollowing areas of responsibility:
1. To support the systematic provision ofa high-quality psychological service in specialist field of practice, acrossidentified locality area, as a key component of integrated mental/physicalhealth and wellbeing services across Devon Partnership NHS Trust and the AcuteTrust.
2. Providing a Clinical Psychology andTherapy service to people as a key component of services provided by DevonPartnership Trust.
3. Providing local clinical leadership,co-ordination and supervision for trainees and volunteers employed by orattached to the psychology service, under the general direction and supervisionof the Professional Lead
4. Carrying a specialist caseload ofclients, and providing advice and consultancy to patients, family members,carers and professionals.
5. The post holder will be supported bysenior colleagues within their specialist field. The post holder will beexpected to make good use of the expertise of others within the service tofurther develop their clinical skills with this client group.
6. To work autonomously withinprofessional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematicgovernance of psychological practice within the service / local team.
7. The post holder with receive regularprofessional and clinical supervision in accordance to Trust policy and toProfessional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Societyor appropriate designated Professional Body.
8. Observe,and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice includingthe British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fullyregistered with the Health Professions Council as a condition of employment
Duties andResponsibilities
Communicationand Working Relationship Skills
Clients,family and carers: To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner withclients who may have specific difficulties in understand and/or communicatingand who may be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotionally disturbed.
Multidisciplinaryteam colleagues: To work closely with colleagues from both Devon Partnership Trustand the Acute Trust in themulti-professional integrated mental health/physical health and wellbeingservice on a day to day basis
Health& social care staff: To communicate with a wide range of health & social care staffin hospital and in community settings in a highly skilled and sensitivemanner, complex and sensitive information concerning the assessment,formulation and treatment plans of clients under the services care. Toprovide support & guidance in the application of psychological principlesand techniques, and to foster reflective practice.
Seniormanagers & professional staff: To maintain and build good working relationshipswith senior professional staff and managers across the Trust and the AcuteTrust. to foster a positive approach to the integrated mental health andwellbeing service and to enable effective negotiation.
Analyticaland Judgemental Skills
Toprovide specialist clinical/counselling psychology expertise and advice.
Toprovide psychological therapies, developing specialist psychologicalformulations and assessments of clients, formulating plans for theirpsychological treatment and implementing specialist psychologicalinterventions for individuals, carers, families and groups. Proficiency in inboth individual and group therapy approaches is desirable.
To support the Professional Head, General Manager, Practice andStrategic Development Leads and Professional Leads by undertaking servicedevelopment and redesign projects and coordinating the resulting work withinthe team.
To provide complex assessment of specialistconditions
Planningand Organisational Skills
The psychology service: To plan and organise own work within the service settingand to contribute to the development and improvement of provision ofpsychological services within the commissioned integrated mental health andwellbeing service to best meet the organisations strategy and priorities.
The multidisciplinary service: To provide psychology/therapy supervisionto the multi-professional planning, development and marketing of mentalhealth and wellbeing services
Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatmentand Therapy
Assessment & intervention: To provide expert psychologicaltherapies, developing specialist psychological formulations and assessmentsof clients, formulating plans for their psychological treatment andimplementing specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, familiesand groups, and to demonstrate awareness of diversity issues.
Consultation & guidance: To provide advice, guidance andconsultation on psychological aspects of patient care to colleagues, otherservice providers, patients, supporters and families
