We are looking to recruit a dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic clinical nurse specialist to our nurse-led Pregnancy Advisory Service/Gynaecology same day emergency care that includes the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit. We are looking for nurses who have the clinical skills and expertise to deliver specialist care to women. Applicants should have experience of working in a gynaecology setting including experience of providing care to women requesting termination of pregnancy and management of early pregnancy complications.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for womens health. The role includes making clinical judgements with the support of the multi-disciplinary team and requires a high degree of professional autonomy. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their working environment which will involve working in both departments in addition to supporting Early Medical abortions.
The role involves working in highly emotive and fast paced area so a work life balance is essential. We are a small unit with a very friendly atmosphere & welcome any candidates that possess the required skills and who will bring a positive approach to our working environment.
Main duties of the job- To take an active role in service development (in particular Early Medical abortion and contraception) and audit of the service.
- Take on the role of nurse in charge and oversee the staff nurses working in the unit.
- Act as a specialist resource and provide specialist advice in relation to care of patients and their speciality.
- Assess, support and plan the care of service users when they experience concerns in early pregnancy.
- Work conjunctively with the in-patient Gynaecology ward- B11
- Provide bereavement support to families experiencing pregnancy loss.
- Deliver safe and effective care over the telephone to women wanting to access consultation for unplanned pregnancy and advice on methods of abortions, contraception and sexual health services.
- Provide information and treatment to women in a supportive, non-judgemental manner, in accordance with NMC guidelines for professional practice, Abortion Act 1967, trust guidelines and policies and procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications- Registered nurse qualification
- Holds a degree and/ or an appropriate professional qualification
- Relevant post registration experience/ qualification in Early pregnancy care/Termination of pregnancy
- Venepuncture
- Knowledge and skills of the complex care needs of patients attending Early Pregnancy/Pregnancy Advisory Units
- Ability to Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the physical, social and psychological condition of the patient experiencing miscarriage or undergoing termination of pregnancy from admission to discharge
- Clinical competence to undertake nursing interventions consistent with evidence based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients needs
- Specialist early pregnancy care knowledge and working knowledge of care pathways, NHS policies and national agendas
- Experience of working in an Early pregnancy Assessment Unit/Termination of pregnancy/Gynaecology
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Current registration with NMC
