OverviewUPMC Kildare are hiring a CNM 2 on a part time basis. The post has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The CNM 2 will coordinate and lead the implementation and provision of quality care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based care planning approach.
- Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
- Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in the designated area.
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Participate in teams, meetings, and committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
- Facilitate coordination, cooperation and liaison across health care teams.
- Collaborate with service users, families, carers and other staff in treatment and care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and by supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
- Ensure that the care delivered by the team is based on standards formulated on evidence based practice and agreed through hospital policy.
- Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care using the hospital's quality systems.
- Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
- Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
- Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
- Ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents.
- Provide the necessary supervision, coordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.
- Manage communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building.
- Provide staff leadership and motivation conducive to good working relations and work performance.
- Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.
- Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
- Lead and implement change.
- Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures; monitor as appropriate and lead on proactive improvement.
- Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
- Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing and deputising in his/her absence when required.
- Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
- Carry out the Engagement and Competency Process with all ward staff.
- Remain professionally updated and ensure care is delivered in line with the latest research to promote evidence based practice.
- Actively participate in research where appropriate for the benefit of patients.
- Provide a supportive and learning environment in the hospital, which enables the educational and professional development needs of staff to be met.
- Ensure that statutory rules, guidelines and legislation are understood and complied with.
- Ensure that standards of care are safeguarded, and all staff are aware of the need for patients and clients. High quality care is recognised as of primary importance.
- Act as a positive role model with regard to the hospital ethos.
- Participate and lead as required in clinical audit and research activity within the field, promoting a positive attitude towards the implementation of evidence based practice.
- Undertake research or clinical audit as necessary, critically analyse and provide written reports.
- Participate in local audits in preparation for annual accreditation.
- Work closely with the Quality and Patient Safety team, ensuring the department is meeting accreditation standards at all times.
- Uphold UPMC Kildare Hospital's policy requirements in relation to fire, infection control, radiation safety, and health and safety at work regulations and attend updates.
- Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures.
- Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post.
- Be registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the National Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Have a minimum of two years' experience within a management position, and ideally have two years' experience working within a Day Surgical Unit.
- Have completed a management course or commit to undertake one.
- Display evidence of continuing professional development.
- Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
- Have working knowledge of Microsoft packages; essential.
- Have experience in change management.
- Play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
Salary: €61,861.96-€75,894.61 per annum based on a 37 hour work week
