Job DescriptionOversee the day to day clinical and operational activities of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory unit, ensuring safe, high quality, patient centred care.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee the day to day clinical and operational activities of the unit to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality, patient centred care.
- Assess patient care needs, allocate workloads, delegate responsibilities appropriately, and ensure optimal staffing based on clinical priorities and skill mix.
- Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff, healthcare assistants, and support personnel while acting as a resource for the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NMBI standards, clinical guidelines, quality assurance programmes, and risk management processes.
- Monitor patient care, maintain accurate clinical documentation, manage incidents and complaints, and communicate operational issues promptly to the Nurse Manager.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Promote continuous quality improvement by participating in clinical audits, accreditation programmes, health promotion initiatives, and the implementation of evidence based practice.
- Support the education, orientation, supervision, and professional development of nursing staff, students, and newly appointed employees through teaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Manage departmental resources efficiently, including staffing, equipment, and budgets, while ensuring effective use of hospital resources and adherence to internal controls.
- Demonstrate professionalism by maintaining mandatory training, participating in ongoing professional development, supporting nursing research, and contributing to a positive, patient focused working environment.
- Hold a current Registered General Nurse (RGN) licence in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Have a minimum of 2 years' clinical experience in a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (preferred).
- Hold a relevant postgraduate qualification or be willing to undertake a postgraduate course within 18 months of commencing the role.
- Demonstrate strong clinical competence, leadership, teaching ability, professional judgement, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in spoken and written English and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate effective organisational, planning, time management, and multitasking abilities in a fast paced clinical environment.
- Be flexible to participate in internal rotations, rostered shifts, night duty, and on call responsibilities as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to coordinate daily patient lists, manage patient care, and perform circulating and scrub roles within the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.
