Responsibilities- Implement and support the National ICU Audit programme in collaboration with ICU and Quality teams.
- Identify all eligible ICU/HDU admissions for inclusion in national audit reporting.
- Collect and abstract complex clinical data from electronic health records and paper documentation, including physiological data, comorbidities, and treatment interventions.
- Calculate and validate severity-of-illness scoring systems such as APACHE II and SAPS II.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the national audit portal while meeting reporting deadlines.
- Perform regular data quality checks to maintain consistency, completeness, and accuracy of clinical audit data.
- Analyse audit reports to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for quality and clinical improvement.
- Present audit findings at ICU departmental meetings, working groups, and hospital quality committees.
- Act as the key liaison between the hospital and the national audit office, while educating ICU staff on accurate clinical documentation practices.
- Maintain professional competency in Intensive Care Nursing and participate in relevant workshops, seminars, and training programmes.
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Completion of a Nursing Preceptorship Course.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Intensive Care Nursing.
- Minimum 3-5 years of recent clinical experience in a Level 3 ICU setting.
- Previous experience in clinical audit, research, data management, and critical care audit programmes.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior nursing staff.
- High level of computer literacy, including MS Office and ICU clinical systems/ICCA.
- Strong knowledge of ICU physiology, sepsis protocols, organ support systems, audit processes, quality improvement, and data protection regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex clinical data accurately.
- Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to present findings to senior management and work independently under tight reporting deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel with experience in advanced Excel functions and statistical analysis.
- Familiarity with NOCA standards and ICNARC coding.
- Awareness of unit-based Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) and clinical audit activities.
