JOB DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Nurse Manager 1 will support the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 for the safe and efficient delivery of patient centred care on the Urology and Robotics Theatre. The CNM 1 will manage and coordinate services, particularly when the CNM 2 is unavailable, ensuring the highest standard of quality care is delivered at all times. The successful candidate will act as a role model and assist the CNM 2 in leading the team to promote a holistic service for all patients in line with the mission, vision and values of Tallaght University Hospital.
Qualifications- Registered in the General Division of the active Register held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
- Have 3 years post registration experience and a minimum of 1 year in perioperative nursing or a related area.
- Demonstrate the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Show evidence of continuous learning and professional development.
- Experience in Urology and robotic nursing.
- Experience of mentorship, preceptorship, teaching and assessment is desirable.
- Experience of working with Theatre Information Systems.
- Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in all Hospital activities.
- Ensure a high standard of care to patients and families in the Theatre area, consistent with the Hospital's mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
- Support the CNM 2 in implementing Hospital Policy.
- Adhere to and uphold the Professional Code of Conduct for Nurses.
- Support staff in orientation, training, and development, including students and care attendants.
- Commit to continuous professional development, including internal training programmes.
- Collaborate on continuous quality improvement in the clinical area.
- Reporting relationship is to CNM 2, CNM 3/ADON, and professional accountability to the Director of Nursing.
- Assist the CNM 2 in organising and managing the department on a 24 hour basis.
- Ensure safe, high standard care in accordance with policies and guidelines.
- Encourage evidence based practice and use a care planning approach.
- Organise patient admission procedures in consultation with the medical team, CNM 2, CNM 3 and Patient Flow.
- Plan appropriate nursing care based on individual needs assessments.
- Prioritise patients' needs and comforts.
- Maintain accurate verbal and written nursing reporting systems.
- Communicate patient conditions to the CNM 2 and coordinate with relatives and visitors as required.
- Participate in cost control policies and audit procedures.
- Collaborate on budget and service planning.
- Attend required committees and meetings.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Report accidents and incidents via the NIMS electronic record system, escalating appropriately.
- Promote risk management and incident reporting.
- Ensure cleaning standards and adequate supplies of items such as linens and sterile packs.
- Coordinate maintenance of equipment and reporting of faulty equipment.
- Act quickly to address urgent matters.
- Make timely decisions with available information.
- Demonstrate lateral thinking and involvement of colleagues as required.

- Train staff on computer systems used in patient episode management (EPR, PIMS, Order Comms, Symphony, SAP, Core).
- Ensure staff compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
- Enact health and safety responsibilities per Hospital policies, protocols and procedures.
- Prepare risk assessments and departmental safety statements as required.
- Ensure awareness of hygiene responsibilities within the department.
- Act as a role model and promote infection control and prevention.
- Ensure staff apply good IPC practices such as hand hygiene and standard precautions.
- Support the delivery of the Quality, Safety and Risk Management Programme, including risk identification and management.
- Maintain the confidentiality of Hospital work and patient information, disclosing details only as required by law.
- Return all documents and property upon request or termination.
- Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Adapt to potential changes in reporting relationships and additional accountabilities associated with the review of the Hospital structure.
