About the work unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Townsville University Hospital provides tertiary care and specific specialist services for newborn babies requiring tertiary care. Babies cared for are those born prematurely, those who require surgery, have congenital anomalies or sick infants that require neonatal intensive care. The Neonatal Unit has 22 NICU and 28 Special Care Nursery cots and coordinates the Neonatal Retrieval/Transport Service for the North Queensland area. The unit provides the only tertiary neonatal service outside Brisbane.

- Salary range: $132,562 to $143,924 p.a. (Nurse Grade 7)
- 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

About your opportunity
The role of the Clinical Nurse Consultant is to facilitate and provide nursing leadership, clinical support, education, training, mentoring, clinical supervision within the nursing team to ensure the delivery of family centred neonatal care. The role is key in ensuring clinical governance standards are maintained through audit, review, analysis, and reporting. Requirements for the role include advocacy, expertise in neonatal intensive care, neurodevelopmental care, and complex case management to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence-based practice for neonatal care. This position works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in the in delivery of education, clinical guideline, policy, and practice development, contributes to strategic and operational management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position and registration with AHPRA.
- Attainment of Neonatal Specific Competencies are mandatory for all nursing staff working within the unit.
