Clinical Fellow in PET Imaging

Thisis a busy clinical post based in the Kings College London & Guys and StThomas PET Centre (hereafter known as the PET Centre) at both Guys and StThomas Hospitals intended to provide day to day medical cover for the serviceand will involve vetting, supervision, cardiac stressing and reporting of arange of PET-CT and PET-MR studies to cover oncology, neurology and cardiacapplications. The post holder will be actively involved in clinical studies butalso some research studies undertaken predominantly within the PET Centre. Thepost holder will also participate in preparation and presentation of cases fromultidisciplinary meetings and PET Educational forums and have an activeteaching role.
The Fellow will be expectedto take part in clinical activities.Training will be given during the post to enable the post holder tofulfil these responsibilities, but it is expected that applicants will havesufficient training in Nuclear Medicine and/or Radiology to be able to performmany of these tasks from the outset.
Main duties of the jobKey objectives
The fellow will beworking in the field of PET-CT imaging to ensure the smooth running of theclinical service.
Communication& networking-Good general communication skills are essential for theinteraction with members of the clinical team within PET and research teamsfrom within Imaging Sciences.
It will be essential to form a good working relationship withreferring clinicians and imaging technical staff.
Decisionmaking, planning & problem solving-Decisions will be taken togetherwith the Clinical Lead in PET to whom the post-holder is primarily accountable.
Servicedelivery-The post-holder will be involved in vetting, supervision andsupervised reporting of PET-CT scans and MDMs and for liaising with referringand other clinicians. The post holdermay also administer radiotracers and IV or oral contrast as required inconjunction with technical and radiography staff.
Analysis & research-The post-holder may undertake a research oraudit project during their appointment under supervision.
Teamwork,teaching & learning support-The post holder will be expected totake part in an Appraisal scheme during their time in post.

Job responsibilitiesClinical and Technical
To be responsible as amember of the clinical team for the management of patients undergoing PETstudies and participate in a rota to provide clinical cover for the PET Centre.
To vet imaging requestsin accordance with departmental guidance.
To insert I.V. lineswhen required and perform pharmacological cardiac stress studies, administerinsulin and sedation as required.
In conjunction with theradiographers, to administer radiotracers and IV contrast as required.
To participate ininterpretation of images and report dictation, providing an efficient andtimely service to referring clinicians.
To participate inplanning and execution of some research studies.
Prepare cases for andparticipate in multidisciplinary meetings.
To liaise withreferrers and other clinicians requesting scans and image review andoccasionally for radiotherapy planning purposes.
Clinical Research - Thefellow may undertake a research project whilst in post and would be encouragedto present at a national or international meeting and publishtheirresearch. One session will be allocatedfor research time.
Teaching and training -The fellow will be expected to take part in teaching and training of otherhealthcare staff (e.g., technologists and radiographers, medical students)
Administrative
The post holder will beexpected to take part in the general activities of the School of BiomedicalEngineering & Imaging Sciences, including departmental meetings, appraisaland KCL probation meetings.
To respond to enquiriesabout PET from clinicians and other healthcare personnel.
Person Specification Experience- MBBS or equivalent
- CCT in Nuclear Medicine or Radiology with specialisation in Radionuclide Radiology or equivalent (or within 6 months of attainment at time of application)
- Clinical experience in Nuclear Medicine
- Clinical experience in PET-CT
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work to clinical and scientific deadlines and to plan and prioritise workload
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and without close supervision
- FRCR, Nuclear Medicine MSc or equivalent
- Clinical experience in Radiology
