With thanks to Newcastle Hospitals Charities, we have an exciting opportunity for a nurse to join the Newcastle Hospitals palliative care service for 9 months in a unique role supporting Trust wide education with a focus on outstanding end of life care for patients, those important to them and staff. This will be done through the implementation of the digital Caring for the Dying Patient Document and Comfort Observation systems in eRecord. This role will give the successful candidate opportunities to work collaboratively with the existing palliative care service, digital health specialists and be part of the Trust clinical educator workforce.
This opportunity is time sensitive to the launch of the digital Caring for the Dying Patient Document and Comfort Observations system into eRecord and will give the successful candidate scope and support to optimise the impact they have through education delivery in many different forms to staff across the Trust. This will include awareness raising events/communications ahead of the launch, real time support on "go live", ongoing support across all wards/departments (RVI, Freeman and NCCC) and planning/collaboration with the wider Clinical Educator workforce to develop sustainable models beyond the post.

Main duties of the jobIn summary the post holder will work with the current Nurse Specialist's for End of Life Care supporting delivery of the 5 priorities for care and the Palliative Care Service strategy. Postholders will have input into the final system ahead of its launch, support the communications/engagement and be the dedicated resource supporting education delivery on good end of life care and how the eRecord system can support this across the Trust.
In the run up to "go live" the post holder will:
- Be part of what the final system will look like and test this with staff in the Trust
- Support communications/engagement to ensure readiness for change
- Consider the community interface for patients being discharged out of hospital with the new system
- Work closely with existing palliative care, digital health and clinical educators to make the biggest impact
On "go live" and beyond:
- Support real time staff transitioning to new ways of working through education delivery/role modelling across the Trust with enhanced communication skills
- Education delivery 1:1, small groups, MS Teams, lecture theatres and e Learning for multidisciplinary teams involved in completion
- Work with existing teams to enhance the educational offer we have already to include this component
- Consider what sustainability measures can be put in place to ensure ongoing education delivery supporting good end of life care

The primary purpose of this role is to support and deliver on going education, training for nursing and midwifery teams and may be required to support members of the MDT. Identify all opportunities for them and others where learning can take place, both formally and informally.
Support a Training Needs Analysis and maintain registers of training as appropriate, support ward and departmental sisters/charge nurses to ensure mandatory training is compliant with Trust standard. Makes an active contribute to the Corporate agenda which should be in the region of 40% of the time Contribute to corporate training and education. Will be asked to support practice development initiatives. Develop appropriate competency based clinical skills education and develop relevant competency assessment documents for approval by the appropriate Trust Committee e.g. Clinical Role Development Group or Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group. Support the Trust Governance and Patient Safety agenda through active participation in the work of the Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group. To maintain the delivery and quality of services provided within the care environment including the care delivered, supporting nursing standards and acting as a role model working clinically with staff where needed. To provide a nursing lead as a member of the multidisciplinary team Provide advice Patient and Staff advocacy Influence change and development of practice, utilising the most recent evidence base. Support the appropriate manager with the development and performance management review of staff where appropriate. Abide by Trust policies when dealing with complaints, accidents and incidents. Maintain discipline within the clinical area, abiding by Trust Disciplinary Procedure Policies Contribute to interview panels, where appropriate in the appointment of staff, and be aware of legislation and local personnel policies affecting the employment of staff. Implementation of evaluation audits to measure the impact of educational programmes and disseminate the results. Support and deliver a competency based induction for new staff and students to the directorate. Facilitate the provision of Clinical Supervision ensuring this is a support mechanism available to all staff. Identify areas of good practice and provide opportunities for staff to share this across the organisation.
Person Specification KNOWLEDGE- Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding.
- Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policy context.
- Evidence of developing and leading programmes of education and or training.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Proven change management skills and practice development
- Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills, including effective report writing.
- Effective organisation and time management skills and able to work to deadlines
- Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi disciplinary team
- Some post registration experience some of which will be at a senior level.
- Research or audit experience.
- Registered Nurse (appropriate to Branch)
- Current NMC Registration.
- Experience within specialist area;
- Level 6 study (Degree pathway).
- Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council requirements for Practice Supervisor and Assessor or Educator
- Evidence of on going professional, personal and academic development.
