Job Description

Children's Occupational Therapist - Band 6

Fixed Term - 8 months

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated OT to join our well-established and innovative Children's OT service that combines the traditional roles of both health and social services OTs. We are a dynamic, friendly and supportive team of OTs and OT Technical Instructors who have a wide range of skills and expertise. The service has a good reputation and we work closely with colleagues across Children's Services in Health, CAMHS, Education and Social Services. We have recently relocated to a modern purpose-built Children's Development Centre promoting MDT working and shared working spaces.

Main duties of the job

You will be providing OT input to children with a wide range of disabilities working across a range of settings including; in their homes, nurseries, and respite placements within Croydon.

You will be delivering therapy at universal, targeted and specialists levels. Intervention will be a range of parent groups, coaching, monitoring and MDT working.

  • Valid UK manual driving licence

Education and Qualifications
  • A Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development and self-directed learning
  • Experience of delivering coaching/Co-op interventions
  • Experience with equipment and adaptations
  • Additional training in neuroprovidersity related sensory needs
  • Attendance of paediatric courses post qualification
Knowledge and Understanding
  • Understanding the role of a Children's Occupational Therapist
  • Uses clinical reasoning and reflective practice
  • Experiential learning to demonstrate the required experience to manage a caseload
  • Awareness of clinical governance and children's safeguarding agenda and guidance
  • Commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice
  • Experience of specialist equipment and housing needs
  • Demonstrates an understanding and application of national guidelines / legislation
Experience
  • Post graduate OT experience in relevant settings.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in Children's OT
  • Experience of working with children at undergraduate level, or in another relevant setting.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary work
  • Postgraduate Children's OT experience
  • Experience working with children who have a diagnosis or Autism, ADHD and Cerebral Palsy
Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to manage own workload and determine priorities
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, with children, parents and staff, including children with significant communication barriers
  • Good report writing skills
  • Able to work as part of a team, understanding of team dynamics
