Job Description
Rewarding part paid-part volunteer role at BuzzWorks to lead children's bee education and activity sessions for schools and local community groups in Hitchin
Role Overview- Position: Volunteer Lead Educator (Part voluntary & part paid self employed/contractor)
- Term: Fixed-term, part-time (Summer 2026)
- Location: BuzzWorks Discovery Centre, Old Hale Way Allotments, Hitchin
- Compensation: £80 per session with 10 to 15 sessions available
- Contribute to planning, organizing, and delivering educational visits and activities at the BuzzWorks Discovery Centre
- Collaborate with a small team of volunteers to develop engaging lesson plans and ensure necessary resources are available
- Maintain clean and well resourced facilities for visits
- Lead educational sessions for visiting groups of young children
- Lead running small group activities during the summer months
- Proven ability to engage with young children (5 years+)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Enthusiasm for environmental education
- Knowledge of bees sufficient to teach at KS2 level
- Experience in leading educational sessions and activities
Note: Training will be provided for candidates with enthusiasm but limited bee knowledge.
Time Commitment and Compensation- Delivery of sessions each of approx. 3 hours each (paid) plus a minimum of 1 hour preparation time (unpaid) to ensure that volunteer rotas are in place to support the education and safeguarding requirements of the session.
- Typically sessions are booked around availability. We expect an average of 12 session bookings across May to October.
