The positionThe Chief Risk Officer (CRO)is responsible forleading the enterprise-wide risk management function of EBA CLEARING, ensuring resilience, security, riskmanagement andcompliance across EURO1, STEP2, RT1 and associated value-added services. As aprovider of twoprovider of twosystemically important payment systemsoverseen by the European Central Bank (ECB), EBA CLEARINGisseekinga CRO capable of balancing operational integrity with strategic foresight amid changing regulations, technology, and competitive dynamics.
- Enterprise & Regulatory RiskManagement:Maintainand updateacomprehensive risk management frameworkand relatedrisk policies,coveringamongst othersoperational,information security,cyber,financial,and strategic risk, fully aligned withapplicableECB oversight and EU regulatory standards.Act asprimaryliaison between the Company'sRiskManagementfunction and theECB Oversight team.
- Risk Leader:Serve asseniorriskadvisor to the CEO,Board Risk Committee,andinternalHeadsofUnits.Act as thought leader in the domain of Risk.Cultivate a culture of risk awareness within the organisation.Challengecounterparts constructively.
- Strategic & Emerging Risk Leadership:AligntheRisk Management functionwiththeCompany'scurrent and future strategic direction.Conduct horizon scanning ondevelopmentsinbanking,payments,technologyandallother areasthatcould impacttheCompanyand its services. Evolve risk tolerance,frameworksand policiessupporting innovation within prudent boundaries.
- Master's degree in Finance, Risk, Economics, Computer Science,Lawor related fieldwithevidence ofcontinuouslearning; advancedrisk certificationis a plus.
- 15+ years inseniorrisk roles with payment systemoperators,otherfinancialmarket infrastructureproviders or in central banking.Experiencein major financialinstitutionsis also highly relevant.
- Strong knowledge ofregulatory andoversight processes,theSIPSRegulationandtheCPMI-IOSCO Principles for FMIs. Knowledge ofCROE and DORAis anadvantage.
- Technicalexpertisein cyber-resilience, ISO 20022, real-time payments,EPC rulebooks,and the abilityand experienceto assessrisks andevaluaterisk mitigationplans.
- Proven leadership across multi-jurisdictionaland multi-culturalteams; fluent English(minimumC2 level), with French or Germanadvantageous
- Strategic Systems Thinking - Connect microrisks withmacrorisks andsystemic impacts.
- Innovative Pragmatism - Balance regulatory compliance with forward-looking innovation.
- Stakeholder Management - Engage effectively with ECB, regulators,Board,Companymanagementand shareholder banks.Effective use of Key Risk Indicators.
