NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has made significant progress in its transformation journey. We are entering the next phase of our improvement programme and these are exciting times for the organisation.

The Acute Division, within which the North Sector sits, delivers a significant proportion of NHSGGC healthcare services. We are seeking to appoint a Chief Allied Health Professional (AHP) for the North Sector. This key post will be accountable for the strategic and operational leadership, delivery and development of the service, supporting NHSGGC and the North Sector to deliver our aims for Better Care, Better Health, Better Workplace and Better Value.

This senior strategic and operational role requires a visible and inclusive leadership style, underpinned by the experience and values necessary to lead and support the organisation. You will demonstrate strong influencing and leadership skills, with significant senior-level AHP experience and operational management expertise within a healthcare setting (or an equivalent complex environment). You will be able to inspire confidence and respect, and lead effectively within a politically sensitive and demanding context. A proven track record of high quality service delivery is essential.

Allied Health Profession services in the North Sector employ approximately 100 whole time equivalent (WTE) staff across a range of specialties. The recurring budget is £6.5 million.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing professional leadership, development and standards, and overseeing clinical service delivery across all Allied Health Professionals within the North Sector.
  • Delivering agreed business and clinical performance targets in accordance with local, regional and national objectives for the North Sector and the Acute Operating Division.
  • Providing operational support to the Director to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of safe patient care, clinical governance and performance standards.
  • Contributing to the wider delivery of the business and clinical service agenda and holding direct line management responsibility for team leads within the service area.
  • Working collaboratively within services and across service boundaries to support a whole system approach, engaging with General Managers, Clinical Service Managers, Lead Nurses, Clinical Directors and Lead Clinicians.

Qualifications and experience

  • Extensive AHP leadership experience and a strategic mindset; ability to work at pace across complex services.
  • Significant experience of working at senior management and/or Board level within a large and complex NHS, health and social care or equivalent organisation.
  • A strong understanding of the role of AHPs in delivering safe and effective services, and experience of working in partnership to deliver sustainable change.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading service improvement.
  • Resilience, political acumen and strategic vision, along with the leadership and delivery skills required to make a positive impact both internally and externally.
