Job Description
Chef

  • To assist planning, procure, produce and serve high quality, freshly made, nutritious and well presented food and refreshments to meet the needs of our patients, staff and visitors in a safe and well managed environment.
  • The role is to work as part of a rota to provide food services from 7am - 7pm, 365 days per year. Flexibility is essential as cover may be required at short notice.
Main duties of the job
  • Support the delivery of seasonal menus, balanced and nutritional.
  • Keep up to date with food innovations on the High Street and introduce appropriate ideas accordingly.
  • Be open to a Culture of Learning.
  • Maximise sales through innovations.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of Health and Safety legislation and the correct use of personal protective equipment.
  • Report all maintenance issues and hazards to the Head Chef/Manager.
  • Comply with departmental & Trust personal hygiene policy/procedures at all times.
  • Wear the correct uniform as provided by the Trust.
  • Use mechanical and electrical equipment in the performance of your duties, with due regard to the correct method of use and Health and Safety.
  • Ensure the appropriate equipment, facilities and the environment is maintained in good order.
  • Assist with stock control; check if all the items are in date and stock rotated and kept within agreed budget.
  • Ensure refrigerators are monitored, temperatures recorded and defrosted as and when required.
  • Ensure food is monitored/recorded for every meal service, undertaken in accordance with the food safety requirements.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing service needs as required.
  • Check machinery and equipment regularly and report any faults as required.
  • Provide support and full co-operation to colleagues within the department.
  • Demonstrate due diligence whilst on duty and report any concerns to your manager or supervisor.
  • Ensure safe working practice at all times and support the implementation of best practice policies.
  • Carry out any reasonable requests from your line Managers.

  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene
Experience
  • Considerable experience working within a professional kitchen environment.
  • Experience of completing safety data information in line with legislation.
  • Significant experience of working within a healthcare catering service.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of various tasks and the ability to perform manual cleaning and catering tasks.
