CF Obs and Gynae ST6 level with interest in maternal medicine

We are looking to appoint a motivated and experienced resident doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with particular interest in maternal medicine to join our team in a tertiary referral setting. The post is fixed term for 12 months initially but can be extended after annual review. This post is full time. Part time applicants would be considered.

This role offers exposure to high-risk obstetrics and complex maternal medicine cases, alongside opportunities to develop a clinical portfolio, engage in research, and lead on quality improvement projects. The post holder will work closely with the maternal medicine multidisciplinary teams, including obstetricians, physicians, anaesthetists, midwives, and specialist nurses, ensuring safe, patient centred care for women with complex medical conditions in pregnancy.

The post is not recognised for training and doesn't have postgraduate deanery approval. However, the job would give opportunities for a successful candidate to furter their learning. They will be encouraged to undertake pregnancy care and maternal medicine SITMs. The department supports CESR pathway.

Main duties of the job

Our maternal medicine service has a variety of specialist clinics at both campuses including cardiac, renal, haematology, epilepsy, diabetes/endocrine and general maternal medicine clinics which sees pregnant woman with any other medical conditions. In addition, there are clinics for vulnerable woman, preterm birth prevention and maternal mental health clinics.

The general obstetrics and gynaecology commitments include general ANC, general gynaecology clinics, labour ward, assessment areas,theatres and resident on call at senior registrar level, 1 in 9 frequencies.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MRCOG

Clinical Skills/Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience with at least 1 year experience of working in UK hospitals
  • Able to manage delivery suite and obstetrics/gynaecology emergencies at ST6 level incl. signed off for end of ST5 competencies as per RCOG training matrix
  • Good basic knowledge of maternal medicine
  • Experience in working in acute UK hospitals
  • Experience in working in maternal clinic or any other multi-disciplinary settings
Teaching, Audit & Research
  • Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit. Able to teach and support junior staff effectively.
  • Original Research Publications
  • Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
Practical Requirements
  • Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen's Medical Centre campus
