Job Description

We are looking for Ceremonies Registrars to join our busy teams across the County.

The location is Aylesbury/Beaconsfield.

This position is part-time, minimum ten hours per month, therefore the advertised salary will be pro-rated. However, we would expect you to be available to work considerably more than this during the spring/summer season.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council (formed in 2020) combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

The Buckinghamshire Registration Service registers all life events that occur in Buckinghamshire including births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships. We have two main offices, one in the Council's Walton Street Offices in Aylesbury and the other in Beaconsfield Old Town. We also have smaller outstations across the County.

About the role

You will assist in the delivery of civil marriage and civil partnership processes at registration offices, approved premises, registered buildings and religious premises where a Registrar is required. Once you are fully trained in this role, you will be assessed and trained to conduct ceremonies which will include commitment, renewal of vows and citizenship ceremonies as well as marriages and civil partnerships.

The hours of work will vary, as much of our work is seasonal. The busiest time of year will be from Easter to the end of October, where we would expect you to be able to offer good availability within these months, including weekdays. You will be required to work a minimum of two Saturdays per month between Easter and September plus Bank Holidays as required throughout the year. Hours are as we require, so will not be every day. Ceremonies take place during the week, particularly the weekends, plus the Bank Holidays throughout the year. There will also be a requirement to cover evening ceremonies, as necessary, on a rota basis.

On-the-go

Our 'on-the-go' roles mean you'll usually start and finish your day from a base, moving around between different locations throughout the day. You won't need a fixed desk to work from, but you'll have access to our network where you can keep up to date with admin and the latest staff updates.

About you

You should have excellent customer care skills and experience of dealing with people from all walks of life, in a variety of situations. You should be flexible and be available to work both during the week and weekends particularly during the busiest time of year, sometimes at very short notice. You will be required to have good IT skills and have good organisational skills. Experience in a previous customer facing role is advantageous.

You should be smart in appearance and have access to/use of a vehicle to enable you to travel to diverse locations across the County.

We recognise and reward you

Hard work and success deserves recognition. That's why we pride ourselves on the benefits we give our people. We actively encourage a good work-life balance and promote flexible and agile working arrangements. We provide discounts on various Cafés, restaurants, shops and auto enrolment onto our generous Pension Scheme. In addition to the opportunity to gain membership to Costco, we have discounted gym memberships, travel discounts with Arriva and much more.
