Chief Executive Officer

The Client
Our client is a Single Family Office based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The office manages the personal, financial, investment, philanthropic, and administrative affairs of the family across the UK and internationally. The Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") will report directly to the Principals of the family and oversee the strategic and operational functions of the office. This is a senior leadership role requiring expertise in finance, governance, and multi-entity oversight, as well as the ability to act as a trusted advisor to the Principals and family members. The CEO will ensure the preservation and growth of family wealth while providing continuity, structure, and professional governance across personal, company, trust, and charitable interests.

The Opportunity
This role offers an outstanding opportunity for a senior executive with a finance background and broad family office experience to lead a complex, multi-faceted operation. The CEO will be responsible for the oversight of all office activities including financial planning and reporting, tax strategy, investment monitoring, legal and governance matters, philanthropy, and people leadership. The CEO will play a central role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the family's wealth, assets, and legacy across generations.

The Position

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Principals to define the strategic vision, mission, and long-term objectives of the family office; develop and implement supporting business and operating plans.
  • Oversee the financial management of all family entities (personal, company, trust, and charitable structures); ensure accurate, timely reporting and provide clear analysis for decision-making.
  • Lead on investment structuring, monitoring, and reporting; liaise with external managers and advisors to ensure alignment with the family's objectives.
  • Oversee property ownership and management, including legal, financial, and operational considerations across the UK and France.
  • Direct family intergenerational tax and estate planning in collaboration with external advisors; identify and implement strategies to optimise tax efficiency.
  • Provide leadership in philanthropic strategy, including governance of family charitable entities; chair trustee boards and oversee charitable grant-making activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective governance frameworks across all entities; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws.
  • Lead, mentor, and oversee family office staff in the UK and France; foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, and excellence.
  • Support the Principals and family members with strategic decision-making by providing clear, concise analysis of opportunities, risks, and implications.
  • Represent the family with the highest levels of professionalism and discretion in all interactions with advisors, partners, and external stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level education; professional finance qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA) required.
  • Extensive senior management experience in finance, wealth management, or a family office environment.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning and implementation in complex, multi-entity structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage legal, tax, financial, philanthropic, and governance functions simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills; personable, discreet, diplomatic, and collaborative.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise and present complex information clearly.
  • Proven team-building and people management experience, including oversight of multi-jurisdictional teams.
  • Strong project management skills; able to prioritise competing demands and deliver high-quality outcomes within deadlines.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and excellence.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism; capable of earning and maintaining trust at the most senior levels.

Experience:

  • Investment structuring and oversight of external managers.
  • Property law, ownership, and management.
  • Intergenerational family tax planning and estate structuring.
  • Charity governance, strategy development, and grant-making.
  • Senior leadership experience in accountancy, investment management, tax, or private banking.
  • Oversight of staff across multiple jurisdictions (UK and France).
  • Strategic finance and reporting in a business, family office, or charitable environment.
