The Special Motor Equipment Operator IIA, under the supervision of the Working Supervisor, operates pick up trucks, dump trucks, rubbish compactor trucks, small tractors, bulldozers, rollers, panel trucks, passenger automobiles, sidewalk plows, sweepers, snow loaders, leaf loaders, snow fighters, sidewalk rollers, and road flashers. The operator also runs hoisting equipment requiring a special license from the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, greases, oils, cleans, and performs minor preventive maintenance on equipment, loads and unloads trucks, picks up and hauls materials, plows and sands highways, digs graves, cuts and trims grass, loams and seeds graves, plants flowers, straightens and levels grave markers, digs graves, and trims hedges. The operator performs a variety of unskilled labor tasks such as digging holes, trenches, excavations, shoveling materials and snow, spreading sand in icy areas, and providing laboring duties for skilled craftspersons. Standard tools include shovels, picks, axes, saws, heavy wrenches, and small power tools. MEO IIA's are assigned to work in different divisions containing the specialized equipment they are licensed to handle as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Must possess a current Hoisting Engineer License Class 2 B
- Must possess a current and valid Commercial Driver's License Classification B
- Must possess one year driving experience
- Must present a valid Department of Transportation medical certificate
- Must possess a satisfactory driving record
- Candidates must also provide a copy of their unattested driving record, obtainable at the RMV and dated within the previous six months
- Candidates may need to register with the FMCSA Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol
- All candidates will participate in an on road driving assessment as part of the interview process
Lifting between 25-100 pounds. Includes proper bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, climbing, dragging, and pulling.
OTHER INFORMATIONExposure to all weather conditions. Work in a moderate to high noise level environment due to machinery or powered equipment. Occasional odor may occur during the course of work. Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations as well as dress code policies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
