Job Description

Randstad Education, Liverpool are looking for School Catering Assistants for roles within Sefton schools. A school catering assistant helps prepare, cook, and serve healthy meals to students and staff.

Working under a Catering Manager, responsibilities include food preparation, counter service, operating tills, and maintaining high standards of kitchen cleanliness and food hygiene.

Key Responsibilities

Food Prep & Service: Help slice, peel, and assemble ingredients for daily meals.

Serve food portions to students while ensuring special dietary restrictions and allergens (substances that cause allergic reactions) are strictly managed.

Hygiene & Cleaning: Wash dishes, mop floors, and sanitize kitchen equipment to meet strict health codes. This often involves deep-cleaning.

Customer Service: Operate the cash register or till, and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for pupils during busy lunch periods.

Stock Management: Help receive food deliveries, check expiration dates, and properly store items to prevent food waste.

Typical Requirements

Work Schedule: Part time hours, usually term time only (working around 15-25 hours per week during the school year). This means you get school holidays off.

Physical Stamina: You must be able to stand for long periods, frequently bend, and lift heavy items like supply boxes.

Safeguarding: Because you work near children, a background check such as an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is legally required.

Certifications: A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate is highly beneficial, though
