Catering Assistant

Vacancies have arisen within our Estates and Facilities Services Directorate. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude to work, and a caring professional working within the NHS. We are recruiting for caring, positive, and dependable people to join our team in the role of a Catering Assistant.

Main duties of the job

Our Catering Assistants are an integral part of the hospital operations, working within the main kitchen providing all catering responsibilities. A typical day involves assisting with the preparation, plating and service delivery of patient meals, ensuring all food is of a high standard, stripping down and cleaning catering equipment after service, and maintaining cleanliness, food hygiene and environmental safety. Team play is key.

The right candidate will work on a shift rotation basis, with hours from 15:45 to 20:00 within our Catering Department. Comprehensive training will be provided; ongoing refresher training is required, which may take place on non working days with time in lieu or additional pay.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, plating and service delivery of patient meals.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene and environmental safety.
  • Strip down and clean catering equipment after service.
  • Assist in maintaining overall cleanliness of the kitchen.
  • Work as part of a team to meet daily service targets.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • Experience of customer service work and interacting with customers.
  • Must hold a basic food hygiene qualification or be required to complete this within 12 months of commencing role.
  • Must hold a HACCP qualification or be required to complete this within 12 months of commencing role.
  • Basic Food Hygiene.
  • Previous experience working in a catering environment.
Occupational Experience
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment.
