About the role
A Category Manager at Amazon is a passionate customer and category advocate within Amazon, with proven analytical capabilities and project management skills, extreme attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task. The Category Manager must be an effective negotiator, leader, and communicator in working with some of Amazon's most important partners and vendors, as well as with internal cross-functional teams. S/he is expected to drive projects of high complexity and operate with significant autonomy and discretion while influencing other external teams.
Key job responsibilitiesThe successful Category Manager must be able to:
- Act as the 'business owner' for her/his categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business
- Have a thorough understanding of the industry, trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
- Maintain a strong focus on customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver an unparalleled customer experience
- Identify new opportunities, develop and execute project plans
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines
- Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet goals
- 3+ years of experience with Excel
- 5+ years of experience in retail, operations, product or program management, or business management/consulting with negotiations and delivering results
- Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years of professional or military experience
- Experience with financial analysis and P&L ownership
- Experience managing large data sets and utilizing them to drive performance and process improvements
- Experience in vendor negotiations, pricing and promotion, inventory management, and product development
