Job Description

About the role

A Category Manager at Amazon is a passionate customer and category advocate within Amazon, with proven analytical capabilities and project management skills, extreme attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task. The Category Manager must be an effective negotiator, leader, and communicator in working with some of Amazon's most important partners and vendors, as well as with internal cross-functional teams. S/he is expected to drive projects of high complexity and operate with significant autonomy and discretion while influencing other external teams.

Key job responsibilities

The successful Category Manager must be able to:

  1. Act as the 'business owner' for her/his categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business
  2. Have a thorough understanding of the industry, trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
  3. Maintain a strong focus on customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver an unparalleled customer experience
  4. Identify new opportunities, develop and execute project plans
  5. Coordinate cross-functional teams and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines
  6. Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet goals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of experience with Excel
  • 5+ years of experience in retail, operations, product or program management, or business management/consulting with negotiations and delivering results
  • Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years of professional or military experience
  • Experience with financial analysis and P&L ownership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience managing large data sets and utilizing them to drive performance and process improvements
  • Experience in vendor negotiations, pricing and promotion, inventory management, and product development
