Job Description

Caseworker (Immigration)

Location: Law Centre NI, State Building, 2 Arthur Place, Belfast, BT14HG

Salary: SO2 £36,124 + 5% employer pension contribution applies to
candidates who hold:

  • IAA Level 2 (Immigration) and (Asylum and Protection)
  • A practicing certificate

SO1 £33,366 + 5% employer pension contribution applies to
candidates who hold:

  • IAA Level 1(Immigration)

As outlined above, the salary will rise to SO2 on attainment of IAA
Level 2 in both categories.

Hours of work: Multiple roles are available including full-time (35 hours) and part-time (21 hours).

Report to: Senior Solicitor (Immigration)

Note: this post is based at Law Centre NI and involves regular travel within Northern Ireland with occasional travel to Britain and occasional evening / weekend work.

Job purpose

Caseworkers take forward LCNI's mission of using the law to change lives by providing high quality immigration advice, casework and representation.
Note that this Job Description is not exhaustive and will be subject to review from time to time in line with the changing business needs of the organisation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide immigration legal advice by different means including in-person at
outreach and community-based clinics, by appointment, by telephone or through digital means.
2. Conduct casework as required, including preparing initial immigration
applications and lodging appeals.
3. Liaise closely with voluntary and community organisations and statutory service providers where appropriate to ensure clients obtain the necessary support.
4. Support Legal Officers with all aspects of legal work including strategic litigation.
5. Comply with all regulatory requirements including Immigration Advice Authority (IAA), Lexcel Quality Standard, etc.
6. Contribute to the Migration Justice team's policy advocacy and influencing work, media contributions, preparing and delivering information sessions and training, preparing and disseminating public legal information, etc.
7. Provide support, guidance and/or supervision to volunteers and trainees.
8. Continuously maintain and develop professional expertise, including ensuring compliance CPD requirements, in consultation with line manager.
9. Act as ambassador for LCNI, upholding its public image in its legal work.
10.Maintain accurate records and undertake relevant administrative duties to ensure compliance with all Law Centre policies and procedures.
11.Be available to occasionally work outside standard business hours.
12.Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time
