Cardiac Nurse Specialist for Sudden Cardiac Death - West of Scotland

1 x fixed term post - 24 months, 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Sudden Cardiac Death to work within the West of Scotland for 2 years. The CNS will lead coordination and delivery of improved timely access to investigation, clinical care and psychological support for families in Scotland affected by sudden unexpected death (SUD), sudden cardiac death (SCD) and out of hospital cardiac arrest (OOHCA). This role has arisen from funding from the British Heart Foundation to nationally scale up sudden cardiac death care pathways across Scotland, following pilot work done in 2024/2025.

The West of Scotland (WoS) post will be integrated into the WoS Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) multidisciplinary team (MDT) and will be split with 60% SCD project work and 40% ICC service work. There will also be a post in the East of Scotland.

Both CNS's will contribute to the development of information on public platforms and online resources, deliver educational and audit work nationally through close working with each other and the Network for Inherited Cardiac Conditions Scotland (NICC). As a clinical leader the CNS will be able to act autonomously in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral of patients with or at risk of heart disease.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is flexible, hardworking and professional to support the SUD/SCD/OOHCA pathway in Scotland and deliver intervention by early (and follow on as appropriate) contact with patients and families. The CNS will act as a resource for onward referral to appropriate local services and improve the patient bereavement pathway experience. Assist with data collection to support national standardisation and better use of decision making.

The post holder will have the ability to work across role and geographical boundaries, providing clinical care for patients with a diverse range of potentially familial conditions, which may present with sudden death or cardiac arrest. The post holder must have the experience of clinical assessment, clinical reasoning, judgement and diagnostic decision making, anatomy and physiology, leading, delivering and evaluating care and evidence in working in MDT settings and promoting collaborative approaches to delivering excellent patient care.

It is essential that you are a Registered General Nurse on the NMC register. Applicants should have or be working towards an appropriate Masters level qualification. Be recorded as a Nurse Independent/Supplementary Prescriber (V300) with the NMC.
