Our client, a well-established and highly respected civil engineering company based in Blackheath, is seeking to appoint a Candidate Health and Safety Officer with 1-2 years relevant experience in Civil Engineering/Construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with effectively managing Health and Safety on site. Ensure that sites fully adhere to H&S regulations both physically and administratively.
  • Ensure proper implementation of the health and safety plan.
  • Ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported and recorded.
  • Identify training requirements and scarce skills for the workforce.
  • Conduct internal training where required.
  • Develop and implement Health & Safety management systems aligned with ISO standards.
  • Prepare and maintain Health & Safety Files for contract works.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and implement effective control measures.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, reporting findings to the Compliance Manager.
  • Act as liaison between clients, principal contractors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform compliance audits on contractors, site conditions, and systems.
  • Lead Health & Safety Committee meetings to address site-related H&S matters.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure follow-up on action items.
  • Compile comprehensive Health & Safety documentation, including:
    • Site-specific Safety Plans
    • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA)
    • Fall Protection Plans
    • Method Statements
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Emergency Preparedness Plans
  • Handle general ad-hoc tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Health and Safety, or Safety Management.
  • SACPCMP Candidate Construction Health and Safety Officer.
  • Minimum 1-2 years within a civil engineering/construction environment.
  • Basic knowledge of H&S and related acts within the construction and civil engineering field.
  • Fully bilingual (proficiency in English and Afrikaans preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and own transport.
  • Computer literate.
