CAD/BIM Technician

Role: CAD/BIM Technician. Location: Carlow. Job Type: Permanent - Full time. Salary: Excellent Salary + package.

The CAD Designer / BIM Technician will be responsible for the preparation, development and management of engineering drawings and BIM models across all stages of project delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Process and Automation Engineers to produce high-quality design documentation for Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities, Pumping Stations, Reservoirs, Treatment Plants and associated infrastructure.

The role requires a strong understanding of engineering design principles, industry standards and BIM methodologies, together with previous experience working within the water and wastewater industry.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and BIM software.
• Develop and maintain Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Develop and maintain General Arrangement Drawings.
• Develop and maintain Site Layout Drawings.
• Develop and maintain Mechanical Arrangement Drawings.
• Develop and maintain Pipework Layouts.
• Develop and maintain Civil Engineering Drawings.
• Develop and maintain As-Built Drawings.
• Ensure all drawings comply with project standards, client specifications and relevant industry regulations.
• Develop and maintain 3D models for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Create coordinated BIM models integrating civil, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines.
• Perform clash detection and design coordination exercises.
• Participate in BIM review meetings and design workshops.
• Generate drawing outputs directly from BIM models.
• Assist in the implementation and development of CSL's BIM standards and procedures.
• Support projects in accordance with ISO 19650 BIM requirements where applicable.
• Maintain drawing registers and document control procedures.
• Ensure drawings are issued in accordance with CSL Quality Management Systems.
• Manage revision control and document updates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in a CAD Design or BIM role within the water and wastewater industry.
• Previous experience producing engineering drawings for treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs or utility infrastructure projects.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, CAD, BIM, Design Technology or a related discipline.
• Relevant CAD/BIM certification desirable.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, MS Office.
• Proven experience in the design and implementation of Building Management Systems in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, lighting, fire safety, and security systems.
• Proficiency in BMS software platforms and programming languages such as Modbus, BACnet, or KNX.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with project teams and clients.
